Effect of Vitamin E on the Anti-Coagulant Response-Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS GLOBAL JOURNAL OF PHARMACY & PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES Fluindione is the most used Vitamin K antagonists in France. It has been sparsely studied and few interactions have been reported with food sources. This case reveals a significant rise in INR when fluindione was associated to fatty acid (palmitic/oleic/linoleic acid 2g/day) or vitamin E (1g/day). Presentation of Case: A 80-year-old male (weight 74 kg, body surface area 1.91 m²) with a history of severe allergic drug eruption documented with low molecular weight heparins, vancomycin, rifamycin and netromycin was treated and stabilized (International Normalized Ratio (INR) = 3.5) with fluindione (10 to 15 mg once per day) for cardiovascular risks due to a mechanical aortic heart valve and an aortic tube. During hospitalization, the patient stopped eating dietary supplements containing fatty acids and vitamin E (Day 0), and then, presented an imbalance of the INR (Day 2: INR =...

Formulation and Evaluation of Solid Dispersion of Glimepiride into Sustained Release-Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS GLOBAL JOURNAL OF PHARMACY & PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES A sustained release tablet containing Glimepiride was formulated by using solid dispersion technique. Solid dispersions of glimepiride were prepared by using Urea and PEG 6000 as carrier in drug: carrier 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 ratios by Fusion method. From these all solid dispersions formulation SDUF3 containing Urea shows better dissolution compared to other solid dispersions. This optimized solid dispersion is formulated into sustained release tablets by direct compression method using hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose and Ethyl cellulose polymers. Keywords: Solid dispersion, Diabetes mellitus, Sustained drug release Abbreviations: PVP: Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone; HPMC: Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose; FTIR: Fourier Transform Infra Red; MCC: Micro Crystalline Cellulose Introduction The objective of sustained release [1] dosage form i...

Etilefrine Could Improve Response to Standard Medical Therapy in Chronic Hepatitis C Egyptian Patients with Cirrhotic Refractory Ascites: A Randomized Pilot Study-Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS GLOBAL JOURNAL OF PHARMACY & PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES Ascites is a frequent complication of cirrhosis that accounts for over 75% of episodes of ascites. Patients with cirrhotic ascites have marked splanchnic vasodilation and arterial hypotension with subsequent activation of vasoconstrictive and anti-natriuretic mechanisms. One of the most serious complications in cirrhotic patients with ascites is the occurrence of refractoriness that is the inability to resolve ascites by the standard medical treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of etilefrine on systemic hemodynamics, renal function and control of ascites in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients with cirrhotic refractory ascites receiving standard medical treatment (SMT) with low sodium diet and maximal diuretic doses of 160mg/day of furosemide and 400mg/day of spironolactone. Methods: A total of 50 CHC patients with cirrhotic refractory ascites were prospe...
